This guide is free. Forever. You’ll need a Mac, internet, and a paid Claude plan.

IT’S ALREADY ON YOUR MAC

Open Terminal.

Terminal is already on your Mac. Let’s open it.

Press ⌘ Command + Space

Type Terminal, then press Return.

A window with a blinking cursor opens. You’re in.

ONE COPY. ONE PASTE.

Install Claude Code.

Copy command, then paste into Terminal with ⌘ V. Press Return.

Anthropic’s official Claude Code installer.

It may stay quiet while downloading. Give it a few minutes to finish.

A HOME FOR YOUR NIXFREDOS AI

Start Claude Code and sign in.

Paste this into Terminal and press Return. It starts Claude Code in a folder called nixfredOS.

mkdir -p ~/nixfredOS && cd ~/nixfredOS && ~/.local/bin/claude

Follow the prompts and sign in with your paid Claude account. If asked, trust the nixfredOS folder you just created.

Return to Terminal. When Claude is waiting for your message, you’re ready.

The sign-in page didn’t open, or I see an error.

Open any sign-in link Claude shows you, then follow its instructions. if you need it. Keep passwords and sign-in codes private.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. These first steps are copy and paste. Once Claude Code opens, talk to it in normal language.

What happens after the first prompt?

Your AI helps you build its memory, rules, and identity with nixfredOS. It walks you through the guide at your pace.

What about privacy?

Claude Code uses Anthropic’s online service. You choose which folders and services to connect. Keep passwords and private documents out of Ask Larry. How Claude uses your data ↗

Is it free?

The guide and open-source nixfredOS foundation are free, forever. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan with usage limits.

What if I already have Claude Code?

Open Claude Code as usual and use the first prompt. It will check your setup before making changes.
